Kids say the darndest things

This week a young boy, maybe 8, carefully navigated his way to the stern of the launch clutching a very precious chocolate shake in his hands. His mom, I suspect a bit weary and in need of some quiet time, sat nearby with her eyes closed. And she said to him, “please, please , please just stay seated, and just this once try to be quiet and enjoy your drink.” And despite his very best effort, he couldn’t do it. I’m at the helm driving to our next stop and hear a very quiet, “Oh shoot.” Never a good phrase to hear on a boat. I turned around and saw the mom with her eyes closed and the boy vigorously sliding both feet around the floor trying in vain to clean up his totally spilled chocolate shake smearing it all over the deck. He nonchalantly said, “Hey mom,” I hear him say thinking he’s asking for help. But no, he said, “ do you have any more money, we need to tip someone else today.”
